It’s the eve of a new year, 2011, and it dawned on me that I should start a blog. Well, that dawned on me last year, but this year I realised that I had a genuine topic to write about.

You see, ever since I was ten, I’d always had a passion for drawing clothes. It all started in Year Four, when we had a special day where we dressed up as olden-day children and sat in the old cottage at the back of the school, pretending to be living in the 1920′s. I was bored, I suppose, and it was a hot day, so my friend and I began doodling on our worksheets. Rebels!

My friend was a pretty decent drawer, and she began to draw these clothes. They were just simple dresses, with cuffed sleeves that emphasized square shoulders and dark lines, but I loved it. So I started drawing what she was, and after that it just evolved. Any chance I had, I’d spend it on refining my drawings, retracing those hemlines and making dark and light contours. Most of the time I was just doodling, practicing, but I loved doing it.

Only towards the end of this year, or the last few months, have things started moving. I moved into high school this year, and my friends are all really great at drawing anime and clothes and stuff. I started drawing more and more, whether it was at restaurants, in the corner of my grandparent’s spare room or in the car, I’d be drawing clothes. And in the last few months, I’ve dug out my old box of cut-up clothes and felt material, and begun hand-stitching dresses for my porcelain doll.

I dont know if it’s because of my age, or just because of my natural instinct, but I love making dresses and drawing them. I’ve started to stop drawing pants and shirts and just focus on perfecting my sketches of the basic strapless, the high-neckline, the halters and the one-shoulders, all with random things to make them different. It’s some of the most fun I’ve ever had, and I think I’ve found one of my many passions. And in the last 24 hours, I’ve bought a half-price sewing machine from Brother, practiced all the stitching patterns, nearly pricked my fingernail off and fixed one of my mum’s pants.

So this is my blog, about fashion designing, fashion creating, boys, food, dolls and my life. I’ll try to write a post every day, or every few days, and just show you everything – the start of new designs, random teenage epiphanies and the progress of what I want to think of as something new. Like the new year that is coming up in precisely twenty-eight minutes.
